Red Squirrels
Red squirrels and their dreys have protection in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981) as amended. The natural range of the red squirrel is predominantly northern England and Scotland. Suitable habitat includes coniferous or mixed woodland. If this habitat exists on-site and tree-felling will be taking place, then survey for this species is likely to be required.
Direct Ecology can carry out this work, which includes visual surveys, walked transects, tree climbing, camera surveys and hair-tube surveys. We can make recommendations, and if appropriate design a mitigation scheme which can be implemented and assist with a licence application allowing works to progress.
