Pine Martens

The natural range of the pine marten in the UK is predominantly north of the central belt of Scotland. Their natural habitat consists of coniferous or mixed woodland, and rocky open ground. Both the pine marten and its resting up sites are fully protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981) as amended. If a development is planned in potential pine marten habitat, then survey for this species is likely to be required.

Direct Ecology has in-house survey and mitigation experience for this species in Scotland. We can survey for the presence of pine marten, and if found to be on a site, then we can provide advice with regard to the appropriate mitigation measures that should be implemented and assist with a licence application to Scottish Natural Heritage should it be required.
