ECOLOGICAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT |
|
Direct Ecology can provide the ecological impact assessment as a stand alone report, or as part of a wider Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Initial scoping of a site and desk study is usually undertaken. Consultation with statutory consultees (e.g. SNH) is usually recommended. This allows potential constraints to be identified at an early stage and highlights the need for any further survey. A site with low ecological interest may not require any further survey. Other sites will require a more detailed assessment and evaluation, along with prediction of impacts and mitigation proposals, where required, in order to fulfil legislative requirements or relevant best practice. More specialist assessments can be undertaken such as Appropriate Assessments for Natura 2000 Sites or bird collision modelling on windfarm sites. Reports are produced to a high standard with high quality digitised maps.

Mitigation recommendations are made within our reports in order to fulfil legal requirements or comply with best practice guidelines. Mitigation measures may include: licensed bat roost exclusion and roost replacement; licensed badger sett exclusion and artificial sett construction; habitat creation; the establishment of exclusions zones during construction; and specific timings of works. |

Ecological Clerk of Works |
|
Construction site supervision can be crucial to the success of ecological mitigation measures and minimization of ecological impact and is often a planning condition for a development site. On site guidance is provided to contractors to ensure full legal compliance for protected species. If required a tool box induction talk and notes can be provided. |
