Badger

Badgers are found in a wide variety of habitats including urban areas, and therefore the majority of potential development sites could require a badger survey.  Badgers and their setts are fully protected under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992.  A licence is required from the appropriate body (e.g. Scottish Natural Heritage) if works are planned within 30-100m of a sett or if it is intended to exclude badgers from a sett or destroy a sett.

Our staff can undertake licence applications on the client’s behalf and provide advice on timings of works.  Our staff have experience of survey, licence application, sett exclusion, sett destruction, establishment of exclusion zones under licence, artificial sett design and construction and the provision of ecological clerk of works.  Badger bait marking surveys can also be undertaken.
