The Building Research Establishment (BRE) Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) enables developers to measure, assess and rate the design of new build projects in relation to a set of criteria. This includes the Code for Sustainable Homes, which applies to new build homes in England, although Ecohomes continues to be used in Scotland. Land Use and Ecology is one of the seven areas which may be considered by the assessors prior to giving a building its certified rating. Factors that are considered include the Ecological Value of the site; Ecological enhancement to the Site, Protection of Ecological Features and Change of Ecological Value to the site. Key Direct Ecology staff are members of the IEEM, a BRE requirement for the assessment to be recognised by BRE. The assessment would include where appropriate, an evaluation of the current site, recommendations for protection of existing features and ecological enhancement of the site. The report is then assessed by licensed BREEAM assessors. Direct Ecology can assist in maximising your credit rating under this scheme in the Land Use and Ecology section.
